A man jumped in front of a Queens subway and was fatally struck Sunday morning, officials said.

The man leapt in front of a Manhattan-bound R train inside the Steinway St. station in Astoria about 9:55 a.m., according to cops.

The train operator saw the man jump from the platform as the train pulled into the station but was unable to stop in time.

“The train pulled into the station. They didn’t open the doors at first, which was odd,” said Nick Haby, 29, who was riding the R train to Penn Station. “It seemed like typical train delay. Then one of the MTA officials with the orange vests walked into our car. I was in the first car. He told us there was a horrible accident and we had to evacuate.”

The victim, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene, officials said.
